Why should I join PTO?
There is no better way to know what is happening at LaRue Miller than by joining PTO.  The PTO works directly with the teachers and administrators to enhance each child’s education experience.  PTO is open to anyone who is concerned with the education, health and welfare of our Miller students.

How do I join PTO?
It’s simple.  You can be enrolled at anytime by contacting a board member and pay the required annual dues.

What is the PTO Board?
Any effective organization must have a group of leaders to make decisions and carry out necessary business.  The PTO Board is a group of PTO members who have volunteered to serve as a chairman on a committee or have been elected or appointed to an executive office.

What happens at a Board meeting?
The Board meets monthly to conduct necessary business between general meetings.   Following local PTO bylaws and standing rules, the Board will carry out the primary goal of being an advocate for all of our children.

I see many of the PTO Board members up at the school.  What are they doing?
The Board members that you are seeing are just some of Miller’s many volunteers.  Many board members volunteer each week in the classrooms reading to students, making copies for the teachers, help teachers with Monday folders, help teacher provide one on one with students, and shelving books in the library.  These volunteer opportunities are not exclusive to Board members.   Last year volunteers logged over 1000 volunteer hours here at Miller.   If you are interested in volunteering, we invite you to contact Lori Walk
loriwalk731@gmail.com or Stacy Moore-Helms smoorehelms@yahoo.com  to get plugged-in.

How can I become a board member?
New members are always welcome to the Board.  Any parent who is currently a member of the PTO can contact the President at anytime during the year to fill an open position.  Typically the end of May is when the new executive board goes to work planning for the upcoming year.   If you are interested in serving on the board, please do not hesitate to call me and let me know that you would like to serve.  If you want to start with a smaller task you can be chairmen of an event.

What does the money raised on spirit nights go to?
Just like with our other fundraisers, the money raised at spirit nights goes directly into the general fund to cover that year’s budgeted items.  The PTO has a budget and updated treasurer’s report available at every general meeting if you are interested in finding out more.

I volunteered to help in several areas last year but was never contacted.  Was my help not wanted?
Your help is always welcome by the PTO.  We realize that as a board, we have not always made that clear.  In the past, when a committee or a chairman arranged volunteers, they would make just enough calls to cover the need then stop.  Sometimes a chairperson might end up calling the same volunteers repeatedly to avoid the extra time it would take to train someone new.  This year, each chair has a goal of contacting everyone who has volunteered to help.
